COLLECTIONS CARE MANAGER - Shildon - MG3
NATIONAL RAILWAY MUSEUM
Job Purpose
The NRM is looking for a committed individual to take responsibility for
the care and conservation of the reserve collection of vehicles and
artefacts at the new Museum, Shildon Railway Village. Running all
aspects of collection care at this facility you will manage conservation
projects, lead and guide a team of trainees working on the vehicle
collection and take responsibility for all decision making on the
workshop floor. Working as part of a NRM wide collections care team,
you will provide regular reports to the main operation at York, keep
full written records of work completed and oversee an ongoing
maintenance programme to ensure the upkeep of the collection items.
Educated to degree level, you have gained extensive museum experience
and can demonstrate a long-term commitment to collections conservation,
an in depth knowledge of a range of curatorial practices and also a good
understanding of engineering and workshop health and safety. A
knowledge and understanding of the significance of the national railway
collection would be a distinct advantage. An excellent people manager
with experience of motivating staff and measuring performance, you work
well under pressure and to tight deadlines, and will use your own
initiative to find innovative solutions at the lowest cost. Outstanding
written and verbal communication skills are vital, and you will build
strong relationships with a wide range of internal and external contacts
to achieve your objectives across a broad, challenging and dynamic
remit.
This post is based at the Shildon Railway Village.
