The Historical Model Railway Society is able to offer bursaries to students
studying transport history of the railways of the British Isles at the
Institute of Railway Studies for the academic year 2003/2004.
The following courses are supported:
MA in Railway Studies (taught & research) - up to £1000.
MPhil/PhD in Railway Studies - up to £1000.
Certificate in Railway Studies (by distance learning) - up to £250.
Principal conditions are:
· the study is limited to the railways of the British Isles
· place a copy of the dissertation in the HMRS Library
· grant the HMRS the right to publish the dissertation in part or whole in
the HMRS Journal.
· join the HMRS
The bursaries will be awarded by the HMRS taking note of the advice of the
Head of the IRS, Professor Colin Divall.
Application for the bursaries for the MA and MPhil/PhD is by curriculum
vitae and a 1000 word essay entitled 'Why is the study of railway history
important?'
Application for the Certificate in Railway Studies bursary is by application

Closing date for receipt of applications for all bursaries is 31 August
