Diversity Counts! Tackling Ethnic Inequalities in Health.

The London Health Observatory 2nd annual network conference will be held
on 13th October 2003 at the Barbican Centre. We are planning the event
in partnership with the Commission for Racial Equality, the Department
of Health, the London Health Commission, the GLA and the London Race
Equality Group
The overall aims of the conference are:
* To promote the importance of implementing the Race Relations
(amendment) Act and in particular the duty of ethnic monitoring in
health and related public services
* To enable the sharing of good practice in the collection,
interpretation and use of ethnicity data in tackling ethnic inequalities
in health
* To launch the work of the LHO's Ethnic Health Intelligence
Programme
* To advocate for a more strategic approach to ethnicity
monitoring in health
The focus of the conference will be on solutions rather than problems.
We are aiming for contributions from London and beyond designed to
demonstrate what really can be achieved, and how information can be used
to change policy and practice. The conference is designed to cover a
wide range of public sector services including local authority and NHS
services because of their known impact on health. We are therefore
anticipating wide cross-sectoral and community interest in the
conference.
