Claire, we have a scientist who has looked at the public perception of GM food and can talk about her research in that area. I don't think she's involved in the specific debates you mentioned. Would she be any help?
This url gives an idea of her area of research: http://www.ifr.bbsrc.ac.uk/science/ScienceBriefs/public_pref.html

Subject: [PSCI-COM] GM debate
Hi all,
I am currently researching an article for Nature about the public GM
debates that are occurring across the country at the moment, and would be
happy to receive any thoughts regarding this novel move by the government
to 'engage with the public'.
I would be particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has been to
the debate in Birmingham, or who plans to go to the debate in Swansea
tomorrow or Taunton an Saturday.
Any thoughts on the role of public consultation as applied to public
appreciation of science and science policy would also be very welcome!
Many thanks,
Claire Tilstone.
