Particularly interesting to see the focus of day-2 of the Royal Society's
2-day course, and its placing the accent on presentation skills.
A course that starts with presentation skills, and then extends into the
skills and sensitivities needed to move from 'presentation to' an audience,
to active 'dialogue with' an audience, are run by ECSITE-UK, the national
network of science and discovery centres, on behalf of the EPSRC. The
two-day course is held in a science centre, and is the precursor to
scientists participating in a dialogue event with the SC's general public
visitors. ECSITE-UK member 'Graphic Science' delivers the course, and
scientists are then paired with mentors at their local science centre to
develop a series of events for weekend/holiday visitors.
This is now a regular part of public programming at Techniquest, Cardiff,
and At-Bristol.
Four more courses and programmes of events are in the pipeline at other UK
venues.
