The Manchester Jean Monnet Centre is delighted to announce the first
of its innovative 'Jean Monnet Cafes'. This is styled on the hugely
popular and successful Café Scientifique model. As the motto
says...'for the price of a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, you will
be able to discuss some of the most pressing questions regarding how
Europe and the European Union relate to our lives in an informal
atmosphere.'
The Jean Monnet Café will bring together lively debate on important
topics and provocative and high profile speakers.
The first Jean Monnet Café guest is John Monks, Secretary General of
the European Trades Union Confederation and former Secretary General
of the TUC. He will be speaking on topics such as the future of
employment in Europe, and trades unions and labour relations in
Europe.
Venue: Café Muse, The Manchester Museum on the corner of Oxford Road
and Bridgeford Street.
Date: Tuesday, 27 January 2004
Time: 6.30pm, doors open at 6.00pm.
All are welcome.
The event is free and you will be able to order tapas and drinks at
your own expense from a reasonably priced menu.
However, you MUST register by emailing [log in to unmask] to
reserve a place. Places are limited.
Future Café Jean Monnet meetings will look at topics such as racism
and xenophobia, urbanism, transport, and the environment, as well as
political questions about the position of the cities and regions such
as Manchester and the North West in the European Union.
