This conversation has gone off in a pointless, to my mind, direction.
By all means argue about the difference between science and technology. I
make no observation on this or otherwise.
The point I am trying to make, clearly not too well, is that it does not
matter how you define science, technology or anything else. What matters is
that scientists need to do something about their freedom to carry on doing
what they want to do.
Joe Soap doesn't give a toss about these subtle nuances. (Just as most of us
stopped worrying years ago about angels on pinheads.) He just doesn't want
those scientists going around doing nasty things. The colour of their lab
coats is irrelevant.
