Josh Philips writes:
"It's tough (though not
impossible) to be inspirational when you're reading from a script devised by
committees of people who have no idea about you or your audience".
Steven Chapman replies:
This is not how the National Curriculum programme of study is written and is
an insult to the hundreds of teachers and others who contribute to the
process.
--Like I say, I wish I had had the time to put this more coherently. I
certainly meant no insult to those who put together the NC. Howsoever it's
put together, and whatever the content is, it is impossible for any National
Curriculum to take into account the individuals who do the teaching and
learning as individuals, and that is where the fundamental flaw lies.
For better or worse, though, we are stuck with the NC, and I suppose the
challenge is how to turn it from a straightjacket into a resource.
