AUT FIXED-TERM STAFF ANNUAL MEETING
'Fixed-term Employees' Regulations - Early Experiences'
Wednesday 19 February 2003
Your opportunity to help shape the policies and priorities of your union
Details of the 2003 annual meeting for fixed-term staff (FTS) members were
circulated in early December and the deadline of Monday 27 January for
registration, motions and nominations for election to the committee is fast
approaching.
The meeting will be held at the Britannia Street Conference & Meeting
Centre, London WC1 from 10.30am to 4.00pm on Wednesday 19 February. This
year's meeting will look at members' experiences regarding the
implementation of the new fixed-term employment legislation in HE
institutions and will look at how 'Security Alert', the new AUT guidance and
campaigning pack on casualisation has assisted local associations in their
work to reduce the use of fixed-term contracts and ensure that new
legislation is adhered to.
Register to attend
Each local association (LA) can send up to three voting representatives and
two observers who can be contract research staff or other members on
fixed-term contracts, including hourly paid staff and postgraduates
undertaking paid duties. If you would like to attend or want to find out
more, contact your LA secretary or register your interest via the AUT
website: http://www.aut.org.uk/who/annualmeets/interest.html.
Submit a motion
If you have a topic for a motion to the annual meeting, contact your LA
secretary about putting this forward as a motion from your LA. Remember, up
to three motions from the annual meeting are submitted directly to AUT
Council so this is your chance to help direct AUT policy.
Stand for election
The annual meeting elects members to the national fixed-term staff committee
and details of this year's committee vacancies are available on the AUT
website. If you are interested in standing, please contact your LA secretary
or complete the form on the AUT website to express an interest in being
nominated http://www.aut.org.uk/who/annualmeets/interest.html.
Costs
There is no charge for attendance and travel and subsistence expenses are
met from national and local funds.
Publicise the meeting within your LA
Even if you are unable to attend, please encourage your colleagues to do so.
We would also be grateful if you could help us to publicise this and other
annual meetings as widely as possible and a flier is attached to help
publicise the meetings within your institution.
For further information on the annual meeting, please refer to the AUT
website: www.aut.org.uk/who/annualmeets/fts2003.html.
