Dear Poets
Yesterday's presentation went off extremely well. Our
representatives, Anne Edgeworth and Hazel Smith, delivered the
Australian poems to Parliament House in Canberra and the 12,000
international poems to the MPs for Peace, led by Senator Greig, a
cross-party collection of about 40 MPs which includes members of the
Government. They have taken the poems to deliver to Howard, and the
event was formally recorded in Hansard. There were about three tv
crews there and to my knowledge at least one photographer (from the
SMH). I haven't seen papers today but I'm told there was a piece in
today's Australian by Imre Saluzinsky, I presume making mock. This
is a GOOD THING (it means that we made a splash) and should by no
means discourage any of us.
Below I've put all the media coverage I'm aware of. If you know of
any others, please let me know for the record.
So we've done fantastically well. I wish I could believe this was
the end of it; unfortunately it's just the beginning. This is going
to be a long, hard, bitter, uneven struggle: but if we don't fight,
we lose from the beginning.
Peace to all
Alison
