Hi Rebecca, Geoffrey and all,
I have been away in Brisbane at a poetry festival so am only collecting
these emails now - and have not yet digested them. But feel humbled
(though gratified, of course) by the support shown by so many of you.
I, too, have read the NHI review and - well, I suppose you can guess my
response. It isn't the worst review I've had recently. I have had a few
other either ignorantly dismissive or wilfully nasty reviews from
certain quarters in Oz and the UK. Maybe I should take it as a
compliment, to get up people's noses so. I have, of course, held my
tongue as one is 'supposed to do'. I come from a stoic background and
culture. My defence is to keep on writing.
And, by the way, I had some very good feedback to my Brisbane readings.
It was a great festival and some revelations for me also, poets I'd
barely heard of and faces and voices put to names. Terrific stuff,
shockingly hot weather.
Anyway, I'll reply when I adjust back to Sydney later today.
And, again, thanks.
Best,
Jill
