Quite an interesting insight, Rebecca, about poets being seens as 'mad'
because of a general cultural fear of 'feelings'! Curoiusly enough I think
it's idea shared by psychologists: we feel that often we are avoided or put
down because we talk about feelings. What is regrettable is that we don't
see able to dialogue in our individual ostracisms?
BTW. 'hysteria' and 'hysterical' wre i think products of those times and owe
their perpetutation to either pro- or anti-Freudian factions. Freud was not
a psychologist. I don't know whether or not you said this in your note by
the way ' i mean this as a general comment.
