This reminds me of Lookout Mountain - Beverly Hills. It could be anywhere,
but the third stanza reminds me very much of the landscape and atmosphere.
Very good poem, btw. - Deborah Russell
----The dove, the vulture "we mate for life" say,
and the hen, the harmless,
"I gave good eggs, was one of many," a life
to feed the stones called "sacred,
spirit, goddess."
What can we know,
for a lifetime
gathering the planet. "Was like a roe
leaping upon the mountains."
Rain, wind,
the sway of eucalyptus at the canyon's edge,
skunk, fox, coyote, possum,
but the hart
hunted.
One cares
because one does.
One goes about
one's business
over and over.
