just about nought i'd say, but the performance is always exciting.
when giving a reading one can say things, either explanations or context or
background, & that probably helps listeners a lot.
but to get all that onto the page?
& what are 'explanations'? i don't 'understand' my own poetry a lot of the
time, in terms of being able to paraphrase it or 'explain' its meaning (&
sometimes I can wing some neat lecture at the drop of a hat), but i do
think it will get through in terms of its music, rhythm, play etc, to those
willing to give it a listen.
let's just remember that there has never been a huge audience for poetry as
such anyway.
more people would rather watch tv...
