Hallo Each
I have started a "clean" email and a new but derivative subject line to
avoid appearing to respond to anyone in particular, so that it doesn't seem
targeted at them
It was I who used the word "fool", as Alison has pointed out, and not
Deborah. Those I called fools stuck up their fingers at Gabe, mooned him,
called him hippie, and told him that objecting to USA bombing of Iraq is not
liking his country and that the consequence of that must be he goes to live
in Iraq. Oh yes, (footnote 1) it also included those in Italy who insult
individual USAmericans because of US Govt policy
I find it hard to believe that Michael has done any of those.
Now, in any order...
I think it does take a considerable degree of courage to stand on a street
corner and attack govt policy in the way Gabe describes.
If the war is illegal, then the troops are murderers. I don't see what the
problem is with that. US and UK govts have a long history of murder
As to the rest, leaving because there's nothing interesting happening and
because of lack of diversity could be thought to be sour grapes... though
maybe that's just the defoliant drifting over from Columbia
If Michael has left, he's made the list less diverse...
Why so jumpy? I wonder. He wasn't in my mind at all when I wrote the word
"fool"; nor do I associate him with chucking non sequiturs *or his arse out
of car windows
yesterday at the wf workshop, a good roomful nowadays and quite a diverse
political range, one of the explicit and implicit themes was *how to write
in the current circumstances - not putting pen and paper, but the
motivation. We were all feeling that, I think; and when I left after about
four hours (by which time we had long since finished reading to each other;
I should make that clear) it was still going on
Most of us, are opposing UK govt policy and that in the time of reported
swing of public opinion towards the govt and support of "our boys"
I wonder how many catching a burglar, would say Well, I didn't support this
burglary, but now you're here I'd better support you. I'll get you a
suitcase
I want Michael to read this because he was, as I see it, distorting my
intention; so in case he's left Ive copied it to him; but I shan't seek to
take it further b/c
I hope he will stay - or return - so that we can all help each other think
these matters through and perhaps understand them better
I am finding it hard to think of anything much apart from the acceleration
of the war
L
Footnote 1 - for lovers of coincidence... as I typed "Oh yes", a man on the
radio said "Oh yes" - maybe god *was an astronaut
