Hi,
Dave i was just trying to tease around the area of rhythm. Actually, whilst
Caroline has broad listening i think the closest reference for her work is
off-beat pop and chamber music. An intimacy of detailed plays that sets into
motion critiques of the representation of gendered bodies using a lot of
visual art references - Cindy Sherman, Hans Bellmer and Marcel Duchamp,
together with Gertrude Stein, Kathy Acker and many others. Remember she is
poly-lingual, having been born in Norway to one Norwegian and one French
parent. So she can talk in sentences which contain Norwegian, French and
English - at least, fluently.
I think Chris is right to mention ideas around deconstruction and that would
lead more into architecture and sound projection (granularity) than
specifically back into literary theory. Yes, she is acutely aware of current
ideas in visual arts practice and she brings that sensitivity to her
linguistic assemblages.

as you might expect. I'm sure we'll just differ. My sense is as with a dying
language. I'm not suggesting that poetry is a dying language. But anyway a
language that is being used to engage with and communicate about
contemporary realities will not die. Part of such engagements and
communications are surely taking on terms. That's why (of course is a bloody
downside) English has been such a successful language. It welcomes
influence. I say poetry needs to do so too. Hence I am all for hybridities.
They don't detract in my view but bring something to poetry by way of nouse
and potential. I know you'll disagree. I'm talking about framing and
contextualising contemporary writing practices in more cunning ways so as to
filch and seduce audiences, readerships from other contemporary arts
practices and enhance the readership for poetry.
