Frederick: “But I'm getting very tired of this dialogue of the deaf.”
I have quite good hearing. You pose an important question - how is is
possible to honourably oppose people whose world view is deeply opposed to
my own? People with extreme views who are willing to resort to horrific
violence.
There are many subtle and courageous ways of doing do (- civil disobedience,
constant monitoring, an unwavering determination to expose and explore the
truth to name a few) that do not involved burning other people to a cinder
and scattering their land with unexploded devices. I dont see any valour in
that, only a massive failure of human intelligence and imagination.
My models of courage come from people like Simone Weil, Sylvia Pankhurst and
Marina Tsvetayeva
“I have two enemies in all the world
Two twins, inseperably pooled:
The hunger of the hungry and the fullness of the full.”
Marine Tsvetayeva ‘If the soul was born with pinions’
Trans David McDuff (Bloodaxe)
“When a contradiction is impossible to resolve except by a lie, then we know
that it is really a door”. Simone Weil
