Wrote my reply to 'resignations' before your following came through, Henry.
As ever the discrepancies in e-mail between real time and its virtual
companion show. It's a matter that impinges on my interests considerably -
e-mail is conversational but written, so it has a casual but also a formal
nature, off-the-cuff remarks that would cause no bother in face to face
speech can cause one hell of a hullabaloo in e-mail. While too it has a
character of immediacy, something that bothered me while on review, although
all but one angry post I wrote immediately after on being put on a different
status was forwarded I felt I couldn't 'talk' to people on the list. That
sense of talking, rather than writing, seems integral to the medium.
Another thing I'd add is that this list has a uniquely familial character to
it, it is something I value greatly, other lit-lists have their different
twists, but like all families it has its fallings out and squabbles, as well
as its affection.
C'est la vie. And Vive Petc!!!!
All the Best
