And I wondered why you kept the explanation for that Jack of Shadows
allusion from me: you needed a co-ghettoist to back you up first. Didn't
Zelazny collaborate with Dick on _Dies Irae_? That's all I remember reading
by him. But I have read a reasonable amount of science fiction too ~ I've
never understood this "ghetto" thing about it, to me it was either
entertaining or not, like anything else. I mean, to take another art, I
don't like Xenakis because of the theory, I can't get to first base with all
that maths, it's just a turn-on to hear, especially live (loses something on
record). It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing (whatever that
is). Grau, mein Freund, ist alle Theorie, und grün des Lebens goldener Baum.
So long live skulldugging romance!
Quote Jobby #6
Remembering Bertolt B.
Bleating laughter. Unrhythmical, irregular jerks of his round head: tension
before a permanent start. Excess pressure in the grey garb; the only valve:
the cigar. Amused eyes, strong language: shit being the weakest. Two old
leather shoes going to and fro with him. Fervently believing nothing.
Playfully instancing. Generously tight-fisted. Continuance only granted to
change itself by this last saint of doubt, ascetic sybarite and preacher of
the science of art and the art of knowing. Sometimes: in a tiny armchair
capable of rocking, close to his earth in it, down there on a wooden floor:
the others, us, on raised seating. And looked up to him. And he was no
longer there. (Günter Kunert 1964)
