Dominic,
I agree with you entirely over Rumsfeld and Bush.
My particular favourite Bush utterance was "This is the moment of truth",
when that is the last thing we shall get
But you lose me with Palestine
You say "The Arab-Israeli conflict was an
immense, entangled and intractable horror even back in the 1960s"
As if Iraq as a problem doesn't go back to Gertie Bell and those who put her
there? And before
You speak of "bitter and desperate farce" - indeed, but is Arafat more a
farce character than Bush? Or Sharon less a murderer than... the list is so
long
"Israel squandering her last
remnants of moral capital in a self-defeating travesty of nationhood."
I'm not sure it ever had any - a country set up by ethnic cleansing, a
country basing itself on the bible, daring to call itself a democracy when
it has shipped out the electorate and brought in others on racist grounds
always was going to be a travesty
You say: " There
is nothing in the whole vicious calamity that supports anybody's arguments
for anything"
That just is not true
The Palestinian claim remains entirely sound
