I'd agree, Mark, but then I found Wozzeck amazing when I heard it on the
Met on radio once, nut I was already deep into bop, etc.
I like a lot of this stuff, including the Wein school, but I also like
abstract art. So weith me maybe it's just personal taste. But Ives sense of
humour, as you say, & his odd but definite melodic lines seem truly
approachable to me...
As for the rest of your post on support & why what gets performed gets
performed, I'd agree.
I remember the time Kronos came to play in a chamber series here. They had
to get a larger theatre for all the students & young people, who loved the
concert -- while many of the subscribers walked out.
