Hi Lawrence
My reactions are going towards the haven of 'it's one hell of a mess' in
some respects: one realises one's own powerlessness in the face of such
events. But darker thoughts or observations occur - I saw a Labour MP on tv
this morning blithely and blandly mentioning that North Korea was next on
the agenda, with an implication that we could expect to be in a continual if
not continuous state of war. The long-term implications of this for civil
polity and society are disturbing, to say the least. One of my other darker
thoughts is that the command structure of both the US and UK professional
standing armies desired a conflict because each new generation of troops
needs to be 'blooded' by battle experience, most of the young troops out
there have never been in an 'engagement' remember.
Brooding darkly.
Best

Why?
I mean Why should USUK govts take that position? It's clearly not an
ethical position or there would be a lot more govts in the firing line. You
mention Mugabe yourself. And that's one of many.
USA could get rid of its chemical weapons. That would be a start.
If Saddam Hussein is deposed, I shall be happy. But I oppose this war
because the reason Bush et al want to depose him is not the terrible things
he does.
Hussein is in power because USUK supported him. Hussein used chemical
weapons because USUK supplied him with them.
The post usuk attack upon Afghanistan does not give me any confidence.
If Bush is so concerned about people, he might release or try those he has
kidnapped to Cuba. He could remove his occupuying troops from that country
at the same time.
, and it's damned clear that the
| war plans of the coalition have risked its own soldiers in the attempt
| to avoid civilian casualties while Hussein's murderers push children
| into the street.
May I drop by and spray DU over your garden? It's entirely harmless, I
assure you. No harm to children. They only allow themselves to be born
deformed to annoy us.
And if the "coalition" is so keen on saving lives and infrastructure, why
has it just bombed the tv station when it could presumably have jammed it?
| And it's time the UN and/or the Organization of African States (or
| whatever its name is now) put Mugabe down, too.
Indeed
Just as,on thesubject of Africa, for years it was time for USA to withdraw
support from Jonas Savimbi. There was a nutter, but not much concern for
the civilians whose deaths he caused
So far, the only effect of the invasion has been to make the consequences of
the last 12 years' undeclared war and sanctions worse. (Apart from the
squandering of money that is never available for peaceful uses in this
country)
All best
