Hi, Doug,
congratulations on the soccer victory! and I hope your elation continues.
Well, you mean in the last 24 hours or however long it's been between posts that the Scottish experts have retracted on the issue of slavery? Who were the slaves said to be and where did they come from? I don't know, but it seems to me that slavery is often "retracted." No one here would acknowledge that the Navajo learned silversmithing from the Pueblo women and children that they took in raids in from the 1600's to the late 1800's. It all sort of disappears.
I'm sorry to hear of your health troubles.
And good luck on the search for G-d, who is probably looking for the "great O" (to quote Vallejo) that's missing from within himself and so we never catch up with her.
Best,
Rebecca

Scottish experts on soc.geneaolgy.britain make mincemeat of these ideas. I
skulk away being ignorant. I dont really know but still suspect it is not
far from the truth.
Regarding alcohol my liver took a terrible bashing five years ago when I
caught MRSA after emergency operations and was kept alive by machine for a
few weeks. The result is that nowadays I have to watch my alcohol intake
(counting units) so as not to risk my liver. So it is very seldom that I
consume enough alcohol to be as happy as I was in the good old days. But I
do try to get to the pub every day to see friends even if I only drink
lemonade or orange. People her may remember the days when I would post
absolutely blotto but I am not allowed that any more.
I was saying in the pub this afternoon 'all that matters in life is
getting
your drink down you' which used to be my catechism, but now in my old age,
as every does, I look for G-d. So among the books I bought today were the
crusading atheist Richard Dawkins latest tome and Karen Armstrong's
'Buddha'
(If you took away the transmigration Buddhism would be the perfect
religion..as an aside the book everybody should read is Matt Ridley's
'Nature via Nurture' which will change the way you think about the world
forever).
Forgive me talking so much but one of my soccer teams, the Glasgow Celtic,
have just won a vital European football match and it is elation time. And
to
Patrick I have always read your posts on Britpo and am delighted to see
you
here. I, too, am a pensioner and will be extremely rich when I qualify for
the Old Age Pension as well.
