Dear All,
Have seen this "walking " response in both our children, not
under full weight bearing, the paediatrician showed up and checked them out,
the counter-rotational torso motion and alternate limb movement is there,
but I don't think it's normal to achieve this under full weight bearing. It
does have a proper name but I can't remember it.
Regards Phill Carter

Subject: Walking- a reflex response?

health visitor came to see them the other day and apparantly with only the
baby's hands supported in front of her, little baby Hannah walked across the
room and even stepped over objects in her way. Obviously the parents were
pretty amazed and were informed by the health visitor that this ability was
a reflex response which was lost shortly after birth. I did not see this
myself, so I can't comment on the accuracy of the story. When I went to
school walking was a learned process. Has anyone else come across this
apparent reflex driven walking? I know babies have a swim reflex, could this
be similar?
