Hi Rachel
I successfully run Xwaves 5.2 from the final release under RedHat Linux 7. (linux is one of the standard install options, and there are instructions with the CD)
Of course, Xwaves is no longer supported or available for release, so if you don't have a copy from before Entropic got closed behind Gates then I'm not sure what you should do. However, as you are in the phonetics lab in Cambridge, Sarah Hawkins or Geoff Potter should have the final release CD, and you should be able to do the install from that.
