Special issue: “Modelling and Simulating Business Processes for e-Business”
e-Business has received considerable attention in recent years. Reasons
behind this include increased competition amongst organizations,
heightened customer expectations and advances in computing technology. e-
Business involves the use of information and communication technologies,
in particular the Internet and the Web, to improve existing business
processes.
Though the dot.com crash has tempered the initial excitement around e-
business, it still remains a top priority for many organizations. This is
perhaps due to the realization that e-business has the potential to
streamline business processes both within and between organizations. The
emergence of Web services and the numerous process integration efforts
such as Rosetta Net and the Business Process Management Initiative have
also contributed to this.
A fundamental aspect in e-business is the design and analysis of e-
business processes. However, there is a surprising lack of approaches to
support this. Business Process Modelling includes a number of approaches
that can help to design, evaluate and improve e-business processes; these
may range from simple process mapping techniques to more sophisticated
approaches such as computer simulation.
The purpose of this special issue is to publish original work reflecting
the current state of the art of process modelling for e-business. The
academic and business communities are welcome to submit theoretical,
empirical and modelling papers. Relevant topics include, but are not
limited to, the following:
* Modelling of intra-organizational e-business processes
* Integration of front and back office e-business processes
* Modelling of multi-channel process integration efforts
* Modelling and simulation of Web service processes
* Modelling and simulation of virtual and extended organizations
* Design and analysis of collaborative e-business processes
* Modelling exercises as a result of Rosetta Net and BPMI.org efforts
* Design and analysis of e-procurement processes
* Design and analysis of e-government processes
* Methodologies, techniques and tools for e-business process modelling
* Requirements for modelling e-business processes
* Role of modelling and simulation in evaluating the impact of e-business
Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the format and
