Operational Research Society (UK) Simulation Study Group
2nd Two Day Workshop
23-24 March 2004
The first simulation workshop, held in March 2002, brought together practitioners and academics from the UK and from overseas. It provided an opportunity to exchange ideas on the current and future state-of-the-art in simulation modelling, with a particular focus on discrete-event simulation. Following the success of this event, a second workshop is to be held in March 2004. On this occasion the workshop will also incorporate the 1st ACM SIGSIM (Simulation Special Interest Group) European Conference.
Location
Hornton Grange, part of the University of Birmingham's conference park, provides excellent accommodation with easy access to the centre of Birmingham. The Edwardian property stands in its own attractive and peaceful grounds. All bedrooms are en-suite, and are equipped to the highest standard. The conservatory dining room and oak room bar provide a relaxed setting for meeting with colleagues. Residents also have access to the University's leisure facilities.
The Programme
The workshop will include plenary sessions, special focus streams and a PhD poster session. Contributions to the technical programme are sought in the following areas, although papers in any area of discrete-event simulation will be considered.
Simulation Methodology
* Component based simulation
* Collaboration methods
* Distributed simulation
* Web based simulation
* Simulation and artificial intelligence
* Simulation software
* Human performance modelling
* Simulation education
Simulation Applications
* Simulation in manufacturing
* Simulation in services
* Simulation in defence
* Simulation in health
Simulation Modelling and Analysis
* Conceptual modelling
* Verification and validation
* Design and analysis of simulation experiments
All submissions will be peer reviewed. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, which will be copyrighted. A paper of between three and ten pages must accompany all talks (excluding the poster session).
Timetable and Deadlines
31 October 2003: Submit electronically contributed papers not previously published or presented. The submission form and submission instructions can be found at http://www.orsoc.org.uk/conf/simulation/book/submission.htm. Each submission must be a 3 to 10 page paper, including an abstract of less than 150 words. Submission implies that an author will attend the workshop to present the paper, and all clearance required for publication of the paper will be obtained by 6 February, 2004.
19 December 2003: Contributors will be notified whether or not their paper has been accepted. Instructions for preparing final manuscripts will be made available.
6 February 2004: Authors provide the final manuscript for printing in the conference proceedings.
6 February 2004: Submit 1 to 3 page papers for the PhD poster session. These should be submitted using the electronic submission form for full contributed papers. Submission implies that an author will attend the conference. All PhD posters will be published in the conference proceedings.
