The UK Department Of Health and WHO are not recommending that anybody need go into quarantine when returning to their own countries following visits to the worst affected areas (Hong Kong and Guangdong province of China).
The WHO have drawn up guidelines for airlines and health care professionals to track possible contacts of a SARS case on an airline, so if any people had been exposed in this way they would be contacted.
Advise remains if people start to develop the symptoms they should seek medical advise urgently, the Public Health Service would then decide if anyone needed to go into quarantine. Symptoms include sudden onset of high fever, (38C +) and other symptoms of Pneumonia which include cough, sore throat, shortness of breath. There is no immunisation that can be given against the disease, or tests to see if people have been exposed to the disease. For people who develop the disease treatment consists of dealing with any complications that arise from the pneumonia type illness. Most healthy people can expect to make a full recovery. The key point to remember is that most cases so far have involved people who have had close person to person contact with an infected person.
