Paul,
We do not apply a 'fitness standard' as in stamina.
Our risk assessment looks at absence of contraindications i.e. able to do
the work in safety (e.g absence of medical condition that presents a risk
such as uncontrolled diabetes or epilepsy)
We enquire about physical and mental capacity to do the work e.g mental:
claustrophobia and physical: ability work in and escape in an emergency (if
indicated e.g. tunnel work) & ability to use breathing apparatus (BA) (if BA
indicated),
Presumably you have these 2 HSE docs?

Subject: Confined space medicals
Hello all,
I would be interested to hear if anyone conducts confined space medicals on
employees to judge their fitness for such work. If you do, what specific
standards do you work to in terms of assessing the employees suitability for
this type of work and is their currently a view on what is considered best
practice?
Thanks for help,
Paul
