Wouldn't the whole topic of hepatitis B vaccination/ need injuries and what
the different trusts/universities with clinical students around the UK are
doing or advising be an interesting and useful bit of research for a
(masters?) dissertation. Particularly if some guidance could be issued..and
generally accepted.
Anybody out there willing to take up the challenge? Any tutors there who
could encourage a student to do it?
If you are using Engerix B there is good information in the prescribing
information.
http://gskvaccines.com/vaccines/pages/adult_engerix.jsp?product=ENGERIXB_ADULT
page 3 immunogenicity in healthy adults and adolescents.
Note that they consider seroconversion to be titre of greater than or equal
to 10 mIu/mL
Speaking of the young, the UK is about the only country in Europe
/australasia/USA that doesn't vaccinate its adolescents against Hep B as
part of a national recommendation. When you think of they types of
"experimentation" that they get up to, it really makes a lot of sense to
offer this.
If everyone was vaccinated at school it would be a lot easier in the OH
depts of health services...
I have requested this for my 15 year old son and have been told I have to
make an appointment with the GP to discuss. This is in spite of the fact
that he has had heart surgery 3 times and been exposed to lots of peoples
blood when they put him on bypass...as well as the possibility of being
exposed from non immune, infective surgeons(it happens..)
