Re Flu vaccine
We are experiencing a year on year increase in the uptake of flu
vaccine. This is partly due to good advertising - we write to each
member of staff inviting them for a vaccine, bribery - there is a prize
draw for all vaccinees with a cash prize, and flexibility of the service
- drop-in clinics, visits to wards and departments etc. Some groups of
staff are well represented in the vaccinated groups such as overseas
nurses and office workers whereas frontline clinical staff are
under-represented.
Also, on the Smart Card front, we have a functioning system in regard
to entering data on cards sent to us by medical personnel and we
regularly receive batches of cards to process. However, I have only
seen one doctor presenting a card for health clearance purposes and the
data had not been entered by the previous Trust.
See you soon Julie

Hi
I've got two queries for NHS OHAs mainly but advice from other quarters
will
be much appreciated!
Firstly - we plan to run the usual Flu campaign again, from October
through
to Dec/Jan. As most of you are aware, there has been a year on year
decrease
in the uptake of the vaccine by NHS staff. Has anyone got any ideas
about
how to increase uptake. I'm hearing whispers of official targets for
the Flu
vaccine uptake (we already have league tables for this!) so my Trust
are
very keen to improve on last years "score". Needless to say there are
no
extra funds available for this "extra" piece of work i.e. no agency
staff
etc.
Secondly - are there any NHS OH Depts out there who have successfully
processed Smart Cards! If so, how did you do it? We have held
workshops,
road shows etc. The docs turn up for the food and the guest speakers
but
either don't have a smart card, have forgotten it or don't know
anything
about the scheme!! Very frustrating.
