I am with you on this one John as a profession we should be sticking
together no matter what our qualification .United we stand divided we
fall.We all start out as RGN's and how can we encourage our peers to join
us if we appear elitist.
I worked for 5 years in an occupational health setting before getting a Oh
qualification and yes I am better qualified now but I know any contribution
I made prior to gaining my qualification was research based. Nor was I
ever afraid of admitting that I did not know but had colleagues (like all
of us) who I could ask for guidance as well as the other nurses who were OH
qualified in my department. It was mainly due to their encouragement and
support that I felt able to undertake the extra training I needed.
Do not let us forget the majority of nurses working in OH do not have a
OH,cert, diploma or degree yet are doing a magnificent job.
