The NRPB Advisory Group on Non-ionising Radiation, in conjunction with the
Royal College of Ophthalmologist, is shortly going to publish guidance on
ophthalmic surveillance for laser workers. The report is being considered at
a meeting on 18 June.
The report is likely to advise against any form of surveillance just because
a person works with a laser. A much more important issue is incident
management and this is also covered in the proposed report.

Subject:
Does anyone carry out eye sight tests for employees working with or doing
maintenance on lasers (category 2, 3 & 4). A baseline eye examination is
usually recommended if you want to compare the result before exposure with
the result post exposure. Can anyone list the tests which are carried during
the eye examination, and who is the best person to do this - a GP, or eye
specialist etc. to carry out these particular tests?
Thanks for your help
