Hi,
I am the Occupational Health Service Manager at the University of Cambridge
and have been in post here for one year. Previously five years at UCL.
We are a small team, Consultant and Specialist Registrar shared with the
local PCT, 3 P/T (2FTE) OHA and 2.5 admin.
Cambridge has about 7000 staff directly employed by the University but
additionally provide service to the Examination Syndicate and a couple of
other University linked organisations. There are 32 independent Colleges and
we sell some services to them as required. There are some 11600
undergraduates and 5000 post grads. We provide the same level of health
surveillance to post grads as we do to staff. We have an annual intake of
pre clinical medical students of around 300, and 70 pre clinical vet
students - most of whom we look after for the 6 years, some pre clinical
medics move on for their clinical training, leaving us about 150 per year.
The rest of our work is the glorious mix of a large research University -
animals, body fluids, carcinogens, GM,travel, DSE, sickness absence,
eccentricities - you name it, we probably do it. And I personally love it.
Look forward to some useful, informative and interesting interaction.
Anne Beckerton.
