This could be interesting, it could revolutionise the management of
attendance. After all the Med 3 has never been about fitness to work, but
eligibility to claim statutory sick pay(SSP). Even now, employers are not
obliged to accept Med 3 as evidence of incapacity for work and they can't
ask for a Med 3 for the first 7 days off absence. Isn't it about time
employers instigated and manage their own processes which they can ensure is
fit for their own purposes? Something better than the Med 3 arrangements?
Do we really need to think in terms of taking over a function the GP doesn't
want, repeat a process that we know doesn't work? Or should we be thinking
in terms of say, a risk assessment process, focussing on functionality and
capacity to work and not signing on and off for SSP?

Subject: OHN'S to sign employees on/off sick
Hi everyone,
Has anyone heard anything about OHN's signing employees on
and off sick, to
reduce the case load of GP's. Heard a rumour some time ago,
but one of the
employees where I work said it had been on the T.V at the
weekend. Anybody
any reliable information on this??
Thanks,
Jackie.
