Good afternoon everyone,
I am looking for information on the "Buddy System" which has been
implemented by some employers within the UK. From what I understand the
system involves the training of key employees to act as listeners and
support within departments and as a first point of contact. I understand
that this system is used within the private sector and also has been
implemented within a Manchester Hospital. Please let me know if anybody out
there has any information.
Thanks
Saghir Siraj (OHN)

Dear Gillian
We use Keystone to test our employees.
Interestingly enough I have also found discrepancies between results
I get
with opticians findings. This creates problems when staff come to
OH hoping
for reimbursement when they have paid for glasses their optician
recommended
for using DSE, but then fail to fall into the category for
reimbursement.
However, if they come to OH first and then decide to see an optician
anyway
they know they are not entitled to financial help from the Trust.
The biggest benefit I find is when employees come to OH because they
are
having problems such as headaches. We can ask for their line
manager to
carry out a risk assessment on the workstation. This often picks up
a wide
range of ergonomic problems which on the whole can be rectified. It
also
gives us an opportunity for some general advice such as taking
regular
breaks etc.
Hope this is of some help.
Lindy
