Glenn - I think you should look at the RCN Guidelines 'Safer staff, better
care: RCN manual handling guidance and competencies' published Feb 03
publication code: 001 975. Most NHS Trust will have a 'back care adviser' or
similar which is part of the Risk Management team under Clinical
Governance - or at least the ones I have been working with have. The
trainers maybe nurses who have undertaken specific training in manual
handling, but they are neither physios or OH nurses - the RCN guidance gives
the competencies required to undertake this work and are accepted by bodies,
such as the National Back Exchange.
