Dear Geoff - thanks for the very helpful information. Do you have a
reference for your paper? - Kate

A clip from a recent paper I produced :
Occupational Health is one of only 3 areas of Medical Practice to be
kept
out of the requirements under the Commission for Health Improvement
http://www.chi.gov.uk/ and the National Care Standards Council
http://www.carestandards.org.uk (They are to merge in April 2004 to
CSCI and
Commission for Healthcare Audit and Inspection - CHAI). The other two
areas
are Insurance Medicine and Government Service. CHI and NCSC operate
in
England and Wales only, Scotland and Northern Ireland have differing
arrangements. There is a National Minimum Standard for Independent
Healthcare http://www.doh.gov.uk/ncsc/independenthealthcare.pdf which
may
form the basis of a voluntary code of practice for our sector. At
some
point in the future, the anomaly of being exempt (section 15 page 166
of
NMS) may be removed.

Subject: CHI ????
Does anybody know if CHI (???) - the new-ish organisation which can
inspect standards in private healthcare, is planning any inspections
of
OH provision?
