CURATORIAL STUDIES IN CONTEMPORARY ART

The Department of Studio Art seeks candidates for a tenure track
position in Contemporary Art. The new faculty member will be
appointed the Director of the University Art Gallery, responsible for
curating, programming, scheduling and promoting the activities of the
University Art Gallery. Programming includes professional as well as
student exhibitions. In addition to the gallery directorship, there
is a reduced teaching load that includes the contemporary art history
section of the core required course for all art majors as well as
newly developed courses in curatorial studies. Candidates are
required to have previous administrative experience in gallery or
museum operations, demonstrated fundraising ability, and/or
college-level teaching experience in the subject areas related to
Contemporary Art. We seek candidates who can expand upon existing
departmental resources and activities to create an experimental,
dynamic curatorial center in Southern California region. Candidates
who are already committed curators and critics with a national
reputation will be expected to continue their activities,
amplifying the advantages that the University Art Gallery, the UCI
Department of Studio Art and a southern California location already
possess. Candidates with inter-disciplinary or cross-cultural
interests and those concerned with the study of art in its broader
historical and cultural context are particularly welcomed. PhD in Art
History or Visual Culture, or equivalent required. Review of
applicants will begin Nov 15 and continue until position is filled.
