i wonder if it has to do with funding and sustainability - like someone
says, even $5 is a lot to have to fork out sometimes ... fineArt forum, the
electronic magazine i am associated with is looking at having to scale down
its operations for a year or so because we do not have funding and
therefore cannot pay wages. as a publication we are committed to providing
a free news and information service (artists won't and can't pay for these
kinds of things but we can't afford to keep working for no money) ... so we
are between the proverbial rock and a hard place ... we won't disappear
just yet but the very real possibility is there ...
regarding archiving - it's so sad that these journals are disappearing. fAf
is archived with the pandora initiative in australia and i am about to make
some approaches to libraries and foundations (like daniel langlois) to see
if our archive can be maintained as part of their archives. fAf has been
operating since 1987 so i think it's important that the archive remains
available at a number of sites.
