The first draft of this bibliography is now online. It lists over 200
documents that describe and analyse risk reduction initiatives by NGOs and
community-based organisations worldwide and especially in developing
countries.
The documents were identified by the British Red Cross Society’s research
project on ‘NGO Natural Disaster Mitigation and Preparedness Projects’
(October 1998 – March 2001). The outputs of this project are listed in the
bibliography. References have been updated where appropriate (e.g.
unpublished material that has subsequently appeared in print).
This bibliography is confined to published or publicly available documents
in English. Grey literature has been included only if it is clear that it
is for public consumption. Internal documents are not included, unless
explicit permission was given to make these public (much of the British Red
Cross Society research was based on confidential internal documents, which
therefore are not included here).
The draft was circulated privately in March 2002 to members of the project
team but it was felt that it should be made public and updated periodically.
There are bound to be gaps in the bibliography, and additional material has
come to light during subsequent research: this will be included in future
editions.
Information about other documents that could be included would be welcome.
Please contact me, preferably with copies of the documents concerned, or at
least with completed bibliographical entries in the format used here.
