We are trying to improve design for our mass spectrometer. The ions are
produced via chemical ionization in the center of a chamber and then drift
through a drift tube (kept at 1 Torr) towards the mass spectrometer
entrance orifice. Does anyone know of any software packages for modeling
ion trajectories in drift tubes / potential fields in the continuous flow
regime? I am aware about the existence of "GARFIELD" suite (written by
CERN scientists) but I failed to find the program itself in CERN
libraries. There is "SIMION", of course, but as far as I know it only
works for vacuum applications. If you have information on the whereabouts
of GARFIELD or alternative code (preferably already compiled for PC, raw
code is OK too) please let me know.
