One PhD studentship is available in the Department of Chemistry,
University of York, supervised by Dr Seishi Shimizu, a new lecturer
started on May 1. The position is for UK nationals.
The project will involve computational and theoretical investigations
into the role of water and aqueous solutions upon protein folding and
stability. Main focus will be to understand why some organisms survive
under extreme conditions, such as high temperature, high pressure, dry
and freezing conditions.
Students with
(1) strong background in physical chemistry, physics, computational
physics and chemistry (not necessarily familiar with biochemistry)
or
(2) strong curiosity about the fundamental driving force beneath the
diversity of biochemistry
are encouraged to apply.
