Hi Group
Matt Liddell:
A short time ago there was some discussion regarding the above gentleman... I added my bit to say he was at one time Mining Consultant to the Australian Agricultural Compoany...(for their coal mines here in Newcastle NSW)
Now a little more...
Liddelll resigned in July 1874 pleading ill health and recommended the appointment of William Armstrong (of Pelaw House Chester-le-Street) as his sucessor. .
It was said of him by the the Mr Jesse Gregson..later general Superintendent:
"His advice which was ought on many occasions, was useful to the Directors who were themselves without mining knowledge, but habitually cautious by temperament, he was inclined rather to be satisfied with what would suffice for the time being, then to look ahead and provide for contingencies which might reasonably be expected."
Regards
John
