Yesterday's Guardian carried a piece on the subject of spar boxes, a
topic which was recently aired on the List if memory serves me
correctly.
A home for the 19th cent. collection of boxes has been found at the
Killhope Lead Mining Museum with the help of a heritage lottery grant.
The aesthetic qualities of this 'art or craft' form appears to be a
matter of contention amongst the staff at the museum, some of whom
contend them to be the most hideous of the museum's acquisitions!
The article is accompanied by two colour photographs of examples of
the genre.
