I am attempting to do some research for the San Juan County (Colorado)
Historical Society on antique mining equipment. One of the pieces of
equipment I am researching is a "Jackson rock drill". It is my
understanding that this was a mechanical, spring loaded drill that was
perhaps only in use for a year or so. It was a predecessor to the air and
air/water rock drills that became quite common. My guess is that it dates
from the early 1900's. Any information you or any of your associates may
have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
