Hi Group
Any coal that is liable to spon. com. underground is generally more liable
to such when in waste tips (called chitter dumps here in NSW) because the
the percentage of sulphur laden brassy tops in the refuse is higher than in
seam..
In the Cessnock area NSW all of the dumps (and many of the railway banks
made of refuse have caught fire over the years (since 1900) and most are now
burnt to ash which is reclaimed as road base.
