John,
Duckett was a shareholder in the Mines Royal and was somehow tied
up with Thomas Smythe's attempts to work the Cornish mines in the
1580s. It has been a little while since I looked at my notes on this so
my recollections are rather vague (other list members may have the
information at their fingertips!). However, it is dealt with in Elizabethan
Copper by Donald and there is a short biography of Duckett in the
relevant volume of the History of the House of Commons. What date
was lease between Duckett and Dee?
