The drive for our wheel was taken off the axle. Construction was cast iron for the hubs and rims, steel/wrought iron for the axle and (flat) spokes. Someone had re-used a set of 6 spoke rims for a 16' breastshot wheel (mid-19th century?) with this axle and hub which has housings for 12 spokes and I think is probably early 20th century. I've attached a JPeg image, but don't know if it will come out.
