The alleged source of the mystery mineral was along the Dowles
valley, which is in the Wyre Forest Coalfield. Even sulphur coal is a
bit optimistic around here, as it is mainly Etruria Marl; however, a few
patches of coal could probably be found. The Geological Survey
make no mention of gypsum there .
I suspect Michael is right in that most of the raw materials came up
the Severn.
